Where It All Began

My father had no warning signs.

He felt fine. He didn't have any reason to think something was wrong. Like a lot of people, he wasn't going to the doctor for things he wasn't worried about — and the kind of screening that could have caught what was coming wasn't something anyone had ever told him to ask for. Until one morning, none of it mattered anymore.

He had a stroke. He nearly didn't survive. He lost the use of the left side of his body. After years of physical therapy he can walk again and use his arm. But he still lives with 30% disability. Every day. Things he used to do without thinking now require effort, or help, or both.

What kept me awake wasn't the stroke itself. It was knowing it could have been seen coming. A simple carotid ultrasound — the kind that takes 20 minutes and costs less than a dinner out — looks directly at the arteries that feed the brain. It can catch the warning signs years before a stroke happens.

He never had access to one. Not because it didn't exist. Because no one ever brought it to him.

I started Awarewell so that more families don't have to learn what we did — that the warning signs were there, and no one looked. We bring screenings into communities, at prices people can actually afford, before the warnings turn into emergencies.

Our Standards

Every screening, backed by physician oversight

Awarewell operates under the supervision of a California-licensed Medical Director, with strategic guidance from a Medical Advisory Board of board-certified physicians, including a practicing cardiologist. Ultrasound studies are read by board-certified radiologists.

Every participant file is reviewed under the supervision of our Medical Director. Results are measured against established clinical thresholds and delivered with clear context. If your results suggest something that requires prompt medical attention, our clinical team will reach out and recommend next steps to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Awarewell does not diagnose or treat conditions. Our role is to surface potential risks early so you can take action with your doctor.
